On July 20th, The Gaurdian reported that US drone strikes in Syria killed 73 civilians. 35 children. 20 women.
How much press did this get? If this happened in the US it would be called terrorism or a war crime. I'm ashamed of the way my country devalues the life of innocent people in various parts of the world. I'm appalled by how we are quiet about this sort of undignified violence and yet allow it to happen again and again.
America can do better than this. If we begin to see ourselves as connected with all of humanity, maybe we'll have the empathy to put ourselves in the shoes of a father who loses his wife and kid in the name of freedom and life.
Do you think Syrian lives are of the same value as American lives?
How would you feel if your son were killed by an American drone?
What if we put ourselves in the shoes of Muslims who experience terror from ISIS and the US?
God, I want to see your image in all people and to treat them with dignity and respect. Forgive us for our apathy.
